Man Burnt in Morning Kitchen Fire

A Shreveport man was burnt this morning after a grease fire started in the kitchen of his residence at 2737 Murray Street. Jemal Small, 28, was removing the pan causing the fire from the stove when, in an attempt to throw it out the back door of the home, spilled hot grease against his left lower leg causing serious burn injuries. The accident happened just before 9:30 a.m.

Firefighters were called out to the report of a kitchen fire but when they arrived found no fire only a light smoke residue left from the disregarded pan. Department EMTs and paramedics tended to Small, who was reported to have suffered first, second, and possibly third degree burns to his leg.

Small was transported to Louisiana State University Health and Sciences Center by the Bossier City Fire Department for further evaluation. All eight Shreveport Fire Department medic units were on other medical calls and unavailable to make the incident. ###
