Fire Department Partner with Girl Scout Pelican Council for Fire Safety

The Shreveport Fire Department and the Girl Scouts Pelican Council Outreach Program have formed a partnership to spread the word about fire safety.

The program entitled "Fire Safety Could Save Your Life" is designed to spread the message of practicing fire safety to area citizens. Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran will hold a press conference tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. in his office at Central Fire Station, 801 Crockett Street to announce the kickoff to the program.

Girl Scout troop representatives from the following schools are expected to be present along with members of the department’s Fire Prevention Bureau:

• Northside Elementary

• Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Academy

• Stoner Hill Elementary

• West Shreveport Elementary

The Fire Safety Could Save Your Life campaign is all part of the department’s National Fire Prevention Month of October. Topics that will be addressed include the importance of smoke detectors and of having and practicing a home evacuation plan. The Council believes that if they make the difference in saving even one persons life, than their efforts will be have been worthwhile. ###
