Toddler Treated for Burns After Home Accident

A Shreveport toddler was treated and transported to the hospital with first and second degree burns after being splashed with hot water yesterday evening.

Shreveport fire crews and paramedics responded to the Kings Manor Apartments, 7210 Bernstein Avenue, just before 5:00 p.m. Saturday for a report of the incident. When they arrived, they found a 20-month male child with second degree burns to his arms and first degree burns to his chest, abdomen, and face.

According to the child’s mother, the toddler was splashed by hot water he had pulled from the stove. Firefighters/paramedics said the child was in good condition but that the burns were very painful. The toddler was transported to Louisiana State University Health Science Center where he was said to have been treated and released.

The Shreveport Fire Department cautions parents and care givers of infants and children to never leave then unattended in the same room as hot products and/or an open flame coming from a stove or gas heater. Statistically, more children are injured in the kitchen than in any other room in the house. More times than not the injuries are burn related. ###
