Fire Department Recognize Best

Annual Awards for bravery and outstanding performance handed out last night . . .

The Shreveport Fire Department recognized their best and brightest last night during their Annual Awards Banquet held at the City Convention Center along Clyde Fant Parkway. The following individuals or groups were recognized for their outstanding efforts in 2001-2002.

Metal of Valor - Captain John Davis: Awarded for bravery in the line of duty. Captain Davis risked his life to save the lives of two firefighters while off-duty in the Parish.

Outstanding SFD Member of the Year - Captain Kip Mourad. Captain Mourad received the Metal of Valor earlier in the year for the Quinton Street rescue. He was further recognized for his continued leadership and outstanding performance throughout the year.

Outstanding Officer of the Year - Captain Tommy Adams. Captain Adams was recognized for his leadership abilities and technical expertise in paramedic.

Fire Chief’s Award - Chief of Communications Willis Carter. Chief Carter was recognized for his outstanding accomplishments in running the Fire Department’s Communications Division and integrating the new 800 MHz radio system.

Paramedic of the Year - Ivory Wiggins. Firefighter Wiggins was recognized for his competency and delivering outstanding patient care at an advanced level during medical emergencies

EMT of the Year - Keith Campbell. Firefighter Campbell was recognized for his medical skill ability and professionalism when rendering patient care at a basic level.

Medical Directors Award - Rick Watkins. Firefighter Watkins was recognized for his consistent contributions to the Department’s Emergency Medical Services.

District of the Year - District 2-C shift, which encompasses the Allendale and MLK areas of Shreveport.

Team Performance - Engine 1-B shift

Citizens Award of Merit - Was awarded to Moureen Kidd for her volunteer work with the Fire Departments K-9 Search and Rescue Team.

Special Recognition - K-9 Search and Rescue Support Team for their help in placing two Fire Department K-9s in the top 10 percent in the nation in their field

Special Recognition - Station 17-B shift

The Shreveport Fire Department is proud of the accomplishments and the professional work ethic displayed by these award recipients. Their efforts exceeded the normal occupational duties of their job and often went above and beyond the call of duty. ###
