State Tour of New "Spirit of Louisiana" Trucks to Stop in Shreveport Today

Two new "Spirit of Louisiana" fire trucks will stop in Shreveport today during a statewide tour before making their final trip to New York . . .

The last half of the nearly $1,000,000 given by Louisiana in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks was able to build two new state of the art specialty trucks for the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). The schedule for the trucks visit to Shreveport is as follows:

When: Today, Wednesday, November 6, 2002

Where: Sci-Port Discovery Center, Clyde Fant Parkway
Time: 9:00 a.m. till 4:30 p.m.

When: Tomorrow, Thursday, November 7, 2002

Where: Huntington High School, 6801 Raspberry Lane
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The first unit is a Decontamination "Decon" Unit for the FDNY’s Division of Special Services which is the first to respond to terrorist attacks and hazardous materials situations. The Decon Unit allows for on-site decontamination of firefighters. The other unit is a Recovery Unit specially designed with high-air capacity air conditioning and heating to allow firefighters to recover from smoke inhalation and heat at a fire scene. Minor medical attention can also be administered in the unit.

The trucks tour started in Baton Rouge on October 30, was in Monroe Monday and Tuesday of this week, and after leaving Shreveport tomorrow they will be headed to Lake Charles. The trucks will be on the road to New York the week of November 18. The displays are open to the public. ###
