New Central Fire Station to carry Dallas W Greene Jr. name

The Shreveport Fire Department’s new $4.5 million Central Fire Station broke ground this morning right on schedule but Fire Chief surprised guests when he announced that plans were in the works to name the new structure after retired fire chief Dallas Greene. . .

According to Cochran, since its inception, the idea of naming the new station after the long time chief was always there. After getting approval from the mayor and city council, Cochran still needs the approval of the state legislature for the name addition. Current law prohibits naming a public structure after a living person. Representative Cedric Glover is set to move that legislation through in the current session and sees no opposition.

The new Central Fire Station will replace the current station at the intersection of Common and Crockett Streets. The 31,000 square foot project is the largest capital venture in the fire departments history and will clearly set the tone for new and modern state-of -the-art fire stations in the area. Its six bays can hold a dozen pieces of equipment and the upstairs living quarters provide training and office areas. The separate and single story administrative wing will house the Fire Chief and his administrative staff. Digital artwork of the architectural plans are available on request. ###
