Public Invited to "Fire Safe Halloween"

The Shreveport Fire Department is inviting the public to "Fire Safe Halloween" at its 20 fire stations Friday, October 31, to receive candy, dress up children as firefighters, and more . . .

importantly, receive fire prevention information and material in closing out National Fire Prevention month.

Every year, fire stations are inundated with neighborhood children dressed as ghosts and goblins, Power Rangers and princesses, all seeking candy and usually a closer look at the fire trucks. This year, along with candy, coloring books and crayons and firefighter sticker badges, information will be provided to parents in how to keep their children safe from fire with home evacuation plans. Children will also be versed in the "Stop, Drop, and Roll" techniques and how to keep low in the event of fire. Additionally, each station will have a designated picture taking area set up, where children can dress up in real firefighter gear or just have their picture taken with a real firefighter.

While supplies last, smoke detectors will also be provided to any elderly, disabled, and/or disadvantaged individual not able to acquire them through conventional means. They can also arrange to have the detectors installed at a later date. ###
