February 26, 2007 - Teen runs car into fire station in late night joy ride

Fire Department to temporarily move medic unit until repairs made

A Shreveport teen out for a joy ride with his aunt’s station wagon ran the vehicle into a Shreveport fire station overnight. No injuries were reported in the incident but firefighters were startled at Station #5, 240 East Stoner, when the vehicle crashed into the bay door and into a fire engine around 2:15 a.m. When they walked outside firefighters found an ‘85 Oldsmobile station wagon on the apron and entangled in part of the door as well as a scared-looking 16-year-old.

The damage from the accident rendered the door inoperable and will cause it to have to be partially replaced. The fire engine sustained damage to the front bumper but will remain in-service. The fire engine will be responding to emergency calls out of an adjacent bay at the station normally used to house a medic unit (ambulance) until the repairs are made. The medic unit will be temporarily relocated to Station #7 at Line Avenue and Wilkinson. Shreveport Police have charged the youth with driving without a license and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. ###
