Firefighters lost their lives in the line-of-duty

The Shreveport City Council will open their meeting today with a moment of silence for the nine Charleston (S.C.) firefighters who lost their lives in the line-of-duty last week. Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran will address the Council and read the names of the men who gave their lives while battling a furniture warehouse fire on the evening of June 18.

As customary with fire service tradition, prior to the names being read a bell will toll three times signifying the alarm of the incident. After the last name is read, the bell will toll three final times, signifying the firefighter’s last call. Each of the nine firefighter’s photos will be displayed on the chamber’s projection screens as the names are read. Fire Chaplin Durrell Tuberville will close with a prayer followed by a moment of silence. ###
