January 31, 2008 - Company to donate 100 smoke detectors to fire department

Donation of 100 smoke detectors

SimplexGrinnell LP will donate 100 smoke detectors to the Shreveport Fire Department’s Smoke Detector Giveaway Program during a company cook-out on Friday, February 1. The donation will take place at the company headquarters, 220 Lynbrook Blvd at 11:45 a.m. Deputy Chief Tom Self and Chief of Fire Prevention Pat Dyas will be on-hand to accept the life saving devices.

Each year the Shreveport Fire Department provides more than 500 smoke detectors to the community in an effort to reduce the number of fire related injuries and deaths. The program is also designed so that if individuals are not physically able, arrangements can be made to have firefighters install the devices in the home. Statistically, those who have working smoke detectors in their home are 80-percent more likely to survive a fire. For your free smoke detector, contact the Shreveport Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Bureau at 673-6740.
