May 28, 2008 - Fire Department to Swear-in new Deputy Chief at Ceremony Tomorrow

District Chief Tom Self promoted to the position of Deputy Chief

The Shreveport Fire Department will be swearing-in District Chief Tom Self to the position of Deputy Chief in a formal ceremony tomorrow. Self is a 30-year veteran of the department and prior to taking over the number two position in the agency served as a District Chief, Captain, Fire Driver, Firefighter, and Hazardous Material Technician.

The Deputy Chief oversees the emergency response operations of the department, including Safety and Airport Fire Rescue functions and is responsible for more than 500 firefighters on the three respective shifts. Self’s promotion is the result of the retirement of Deputy Chief Mack McCoy on January 1, 2008.
