January 1, 2009 - Early Morning House Fire Causes Heavy Damage

All Occupants Escaped Safely

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to 1441 Clanton Street this morning at 4:39 AM for a reported house fire. Fire crews arrived on scene within three minutes to find a single story wood frame home with flames showing from the rear of the home and heavy smoke from all openings. Fire crews immediately search the home and found that all occupants had escaped safely. Fire crews were able to rescue three dogs from the home. The fire spread from a bedroom in the back to the attic space and caused heavy damage to the home. The fire was brought under control in less than an hour.

The home was occupied at the time by a family of nine—one adult and 8 children ranging in age from 18 to 4 years old. The 18 year old was asleep in the bedroom where the fire started and was awaken by the smell of smoke and saw fire coming from the end of his bed. He then woke his mother up and all occupants escaped through a door and window on the front of the home. There were no injuries reported from the occupants.

There were 21 firefighters that responded to fire with no firefighter injuries reported. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature from an appliance that was plugged up in the bedroom
