December 22, 2009 - Electrical Fire Damages Highland Home

SFD Responds to early morning fire on Cook Street

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to 1827 Cook Street at 6:56 AM this morning to find a single story wood frame home with heavy smoke coming from the attic space. Fire crews arrived on scene at 7:01 AM and found the two occupants of the home had escaped safely and quickly worked to get the fire extinguished. The fire was contained in the attic where a roof rafter was ignited from an electrical wire that was attached to it. The fire was brought under control at 7:16 AM.

The two occupants that escaped safely reported that they had heard popping noises and saw sparks coming from the attic. They both exited the home at that time and called 911. The attic space received fire damage and the home had smoke damage throughout.

One of the occupants, a 30-year old male, was transported to LSUMC for chest pains. The occupants began complaining of chest pains about an hour after the fire occurred and was transported at 8:04 AM. He had no life threatening injuries.
