March 6, 2010 - Two Persons Critically Injured in Early Morning House Fire

The Shreveport Fire Department’s first engine company arrived at 8:13 a.m.

Shortly after 8:00 a.m. this morning, a citizen called 9-1-1 and to report a house fire in the 500 block of Wall Street in the Stoner Hill community. The Shreveport Fire Department’s first engine company arrived at 8:13 a.m. and reported seeing heavy smoke and flames coming from the door and windows on the north and west exterior sides of the home. One of the fire victims escaped and informed the fire department that another person was inside.

Firefighters entered the structure and found a 41-year-old female unconscious in the rear of the house. Paramedics performed on-scene CPR and life-saving treatment before transporting her to LSUHSC where she is listed in critical condition.

A second fire victim, a 41year-old male, was also treated on-scene and transported to LSUHSC Burn Unit for second degree burns to his face and third degree burns to his hands. The second patient informed fire officials that a candle was knocked over inside the house.

It took 7 units—21 firefighters to extinguish and control the fire by 8:47 a.m. Fire investigators are currently investigating cause of the fire.
