March 19, 2010 - House Destroyed by Afternoon Fire

Gusty winds contributed the rapid spread of fire in the small home

The Shreveport Fire Department responded to 406 East College Street this afternoon at 3:13 pm to find a one story wood frame home fully involved with fire. Engine Five from the Stoner Hill Community was first on scene at 3:16 pm and designated a defensive attack on the structure due to the intensity of the fire. A defensive attack was conducted from the outside of the home with no firefighter able to enter it due to the rapid fire spread of the home. Gusty winds contributed the rapid spread of fire in the small home. The fire was brought under control at 3:48 pm with the home suffering heavy fire damage.

Reports at the scene were that the home may or may not have been occupied. There was no one home at the time of the fire and no reported injuries. The home did have utilities. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
