April 27, 2010 - Small Fire at Libbey Glass

Found some light smoke coming from the ventilation area

Shreveport Fire Department responded to Libbey Glass at 4302 Jewella Avenue this afternoon at 3:19 pm for a reported fire. Crews arrived on scene within two minutes and found some light smoke coming from the ventilation area of the roof that is above the company’s production line. Recent construction on the roof had been done and some wood rafters that were in the high heat area that ventilates the plants heated gases began to smolder. Fire crews were able to assess the situation along with company safety officials and determine that the smoldering wood located in the high heat ventilation area of the roof was not a danger to employees or the structural integrity of the building. The incident was placed under control at 4:23 pm.

Initial dispatch was five engines, two ladder trucks, two rescue trucks, one Battalion Chief and Safety Officer, and one Medic Unit. Additional fire companies responded due to the industrial nature of the plant and the amount of employees on site.
