May 8, 2010 - Elderly couple involved in Vehicle/Train collision in Southeast Shreveport

The impact from the collision caused at least 200 gallons of diesel fuel to leak

This afternoon at 4:37 p.m., the Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to motor vehicle/train accident involving a Union Pacific locomotive and a Chrysler Concord of Ashley Ridge Drive and Line Avenue. When medic crews arrived on scene, they found one passerby assisting the elderly occupants of the vehicle.

A 92-year old male was transported to LSUHC with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery; however, the 87-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene by the Caddo Parish Coroner’s office. Both names are being withheld until proper notification of the family.

The impact from the collision caused at least 200 gallons of diesel fuel to leak from the train prompting Union Pacific Railroad to commission a clean-up crew from North Little Rock to remove the spilled combustible from the area; this spill does not pose a health hazard to the community.

According to preliminary on-scene investigation reports, the driver drove the vehicle into the side of a moving train. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation by the Shreveport Police Department.
