55th Basic Training Class
Hiring Previously trained Fire Recruits allows Department to save taxpayer dollars

On Thursday, July 8th at 9:00 a.m., Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover, Fire Chief Brian Crawford, and the Fire Department Command Staff will welcome the Department’s 55th Basic Training Class during the morning orientation exercises. The training classes will be held at the Shreveport Fire Training Academy at 6440 Greenwood Road.

This new training class consists of seven firefighters who were previously employed by other fire service agencies. Because of their previous training and awarded certifications, these newly hired recruits will be allowed to participate in a five-week abbreviated version of the Department’s normal 18-22 week training class. This is the second abbreviated version offered by the department in the past year, which equates to substantial savings to the City of Shreveport.
