July 14, 2010 - Shreveport Fire Department receives National Recognition for Fire Service Calls
SFD surpasses Baton Rouge and New Orleans for 2nd straight year

Today, Shreveport Fire Chief Brian Crawford proudly announced that according to a survey sponsored by Firehouse Magazine, the Shreveport Fire Department ranks 47th out of a reported 280 fire departments for incident response calls in 2009. Last year SFD responded to 36,701 calls for help --- Louisiana’s capital city finished in 79th place with 28,834 incidents and the crescent city finished 91st place with 23,382 calls.

In addition to being the busiest Fire Department in Louisiana, Engine Company 9 located in the Cedar Grove Community is classified as the busiest response unit with 3,561 emergency response calls.

“When statistics like these are nationally published, it confirms our dedication and commitment to the citizens of Shreveport that this Department will respond when called upon,” said Chief Crawford. “More than 70 percent of the Department’s total calls last year were EMS related. However, we have been known to make an occasional animal rescue.”
