August 4, 2010 - SFD Firefighters Participate in Swift Water Rescue Training

Certified Trainer Paul Fraser will facilitate this one week course

Fourteen (14) members of the Shreveport Fire Department have been selected to participate in Swift Water Rescuer Training at Crouch Dam Road on Caddo Lake this week. Certified Trainer Paul Fraser will facilitate this one week course which includes one day of classroom instruction plus four days of practical skills training which focuses on water safety, reading water, recognizing and avoiding hazards, quick rescue techniques, boat-based rescues, dealing with boat wraps and entrapments, technical rescue systems, and a variety of practical scenarios.

“Swift Water Rescuer Training is geared toward first responders who will participate in river and flood rescue incidents,” said Chief Crawford. “This is a unique opportunity for our employees to get certified in this specialized area that could affect our community.”
