August 9, 2010 - City Officials Concerned about Record Temperatures Top City officials have ordered the IMMEDIATE opening of 15 ‘Cooling Centers’ throughout the city to ease the health risk of Shreveport citizens Based on the heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service, Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover and Fire Chief Brian Crawford has ordered the IMMEDIATE opening of 15 ‘Cooling Centers’ throughout the city. These ‘Cooling Centers’ will be opened from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. each day Monday-Friday or until the heat advisory has been lifted. The National Weather Service predicts 100+ degree temperatures and the heat index rising as high as 109 degrees Fahrenheit for most of the week. Officials ask that residents take extra precautions when working under these conditions. The ‘Cooling Centers’ are conveniently located inside SPAR recreational centers already operating in most neighborhoods. Below is a list of approved ‘Cooling Center’ locations:
