September 10, 2010 - SFD Remembers 9-1-1 Terrorist Attack

Flags at all fire stations have been ordered to half mast

The Shreveport Fire Department will take time to remember the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center buildings Saturday, September 11th. This date marks the ninth anniversary of the tragic event in which 411 public safety officers were killed. The FDNY lost 343 firefighters that day, the largest single event loss of firefighter line of duty deaths ever.

The SFD will remember the event by rolling out all Fire Department Apparatus at each station. All fire department members will line up outside the station and observe a minute of silence at 8:59 am which was the time of the first tower collapse. Flags at all fire stations have been ordered to half mast in recognition of the terrorist attack, loss of life at the event, and the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives defending our country since September 11, 2001.

Fire Chief Brian Crawford stated, “We can never forget the event that happen that day and the great sacrifice that so many people gave of themselves during this tragic event. The memory of their ultimate sacrifice and service will inspire us to serve the City of Shreveport with our best and we will never forget.”
