September 13, 2010 - Chief Crawford issues Award to ten year old Shreve Island student Rayshawn will receive this award for remaining calm and composed in the face of a dangerous fire TODAY at 1:45 pm, Fire Chief Brian A. Crawford will award 10-year-old Rayshawn Progue the Department’s Certification of Commendation Award for his part in helping save his family’s life. The special awards ceremony will be held at the Shreve Island Elementary School in front of Rayshawn’s principal, teachers, and classmates. “Rayshawn will receive this award for remaining calm and composed in the face of a dangerous fire while alerting his family and helping them to safety.” according to Chief Crawford. On Tues, Sept. 7, firefighters were called to a house fire in the 3000 block of Dallas Street where Rayshawn and three other family members escaped to safety due to his actions. The family home was gutted so they are living with other family members until they can find another place to live. Awards Presentation:
