December 16, 2010 - Shreveport Fire Officials Unveil and Dedicate Firefighter Monument of Honor

TODAY at 2:30 PM

TODAY, at 2:30 PM, Mayor Cedric B. Glover and Fire Chief Brian A. Crawford will unveil and dedicate Shreveport's Firefighter Monument of Honor, a life-sized statue to honor the commitment and sacrifice of firefighters and emergency medical service providers. This magnificent work of art will be positioned at the southeast corner of the Dallas W. Greene Central Fire Station.

According to fire officials, this dedication marks the first of three phases. The final two phases will include installing underground lighting, concrete benches for moments of meditation, and brick pavers engraved with the names of current and former members of the fire service family.

"This is a great day for our fire service family and the citizens of Shreveport because we accomplished what we set out to do and that was to find a way to publicly show our appreciation to the men and women of this profession" Chief Crawford said. "We hope this statue will inspire the next generation to join this life-changing profession."
