Shreveport police have arrested a man they believe committed more than 50 burglaries and theft where laundry rooms were broken into and laundry money taken.
Kenny Hillman, 41, of the 7100 block of Golden Meadows in Greenwood, was caught by Officer John Schmelz breaking into a laundry room at an apartment complex in the 8500 block of Millicent Way early Saturday.
The arrest occurred after Schmelz placed a baby monitor in the laundry room to catch the thief who had been breaking into the machines there. At 4:46 a.m. Saturday, Schmelz got his suspect.
Detective Kevin Goodwin, who is leading the investigation, estimates Hillman has committed more than 50 similar break-ins throughout Shreveport.
While the investigation could see that estimate go even higher, Hillman is believed to have burglarized laundry rooms of at least 23 Shreveport apartment complexes on multiple occasions. In all, several thousand dollars was stolen.
Hillman will be charged with numerous counts of burglary, but the total number of charges has not yet been determined.
