Police find deceased newborn in trash can
Shreveport police discovered a newly born baby girl deceased at an apartment at Wilkinson Terrace early this morning.
The baby, which has been taken for autopsy by the Caddo Parish coroner, was found inside a bathroom garbage can in the alleged mother’s apartment.
Police were alerted by officials with Willis-Knighton Pierremont after the 33-year-old woman showed up at the hospital with problems that appeared to be complications from giving birth.
The woman underwent surgery and was listed in fair condition in the Intensive Care Unit this afternoon.
Investigators are awaiting autopsy results that will give them information concerning the cause of death and the approximate time of death.
It is unknown at this time whether any criminal charges will be filed.
