Man dies in fatal wreck
A Mooringsport man died this afternoon during a wreck on Interstate 20 at the Inner Loop.
Ed Gates, 71, died after his pickup truck ran into the back of an 18-wheeler. The accident occurred at 11:18 a.m. where construction caused the right lane to be closed on I-20 near the Inner Loop 3132 overpass.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, 42-year-old Anthony Hill of Houma, was not injured.
Upon impact with the 18-wheeler, the pickup then hit a piece of DOTD equipment, which was parked at the construction site. Minor damage was caused to the equipment. Gates’ Dodge pickup truck was towing a boat, which ended up in one of the lanes on I-20.
The accident is currently under investigation, and it appears that no traffic citations or charges will be filed at this time.
