Man arrested for stabbing at Mardi Gras parade
Shreveport Detective Tom Oster arrested a 32-year-old Waskom man for the stabbing of 40-year-old Victor Garrett at last Saturday’s Mardi Gras parade.
Graham Springer was arrested this afternoon and charged with aggravated battery.
Oster has pursued the case since the Saturday night’s incident in which Garrett was stabbed in the stomach. At first, Garrett did not realize he had been stabbed. However, he and a group of men unknown to him had gotten into an argument because the men were allegedly harassing his family.
Garrett was taken to LSU Hospital where he was treated for his wound. Evidence recovered at the scene helped lead detectives to Springer.
This incident was the first of two unrelated incidents that occurred that night. Shortly after Garrett was stabbed, another man, 27-year-old Tavarus Beavers was stabbed in the abdomen and taken to LSU.
Oster also investigated that case and determined that the incident was an act of self-defense. However, the case will be referred to the district attorney’s office for review.
