Police uncover marijuana cultivation operation
Shreveport patrol officers and narcotics agents discovered one of the largest marijuana growing operations in recent history at a Shreveport home Wednesday night.
Police seized 150 marijuana plants, along with a sophisticated hydroponics setup that included special lighting, fertilizer, watering system and plant drying closet.
The particular plants that were seized have a street value of up to $5,000 each because of the high quality of drug produced. The total estimated value of plants and equipment seized is more than $700,000.
Besides the plants, police recovered just over $3,000 in cash – money believed to be drug proceeds.
Upon finding the drugs, police arrested Gordon Fox, 49, who lived at the home located in the 2500 block of Regent. He is charged with cultivating marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Police discovered the plants after patrol officers went to the house to investigate a drug complaint. Upon smelling an overwhelming aroma of marijuana, drug agents obtained a search warrant and discovered the plants.
