Woman arrested after lengthy police chase

A woman who sent police on a lengthy chase that spanned a large portion of the city of Shreveport and ended in Greenwood has been arrested on numerous charges, including DWI.

Betty Harrison, 39, address unknown was arrested last night and charged with hit and run, aggravated flight, reckless operation and DWI. Her blood alcohol level was .223 percent. She originally was booked as Mary Miciotto, 42, of the 8900 block of Jewella. This is one of several false identities she has used in the past.

Fingerprint records from Austin, Texas, showed that the woman booked was Harrison, and she was wanted on a parole violation for forgery. She also was arrested in 1998 in Benton for DWI.

Harrison was driving a white garbage truck when she reportedly hit a 1996 Nissan pickup from behind on North Market Street near North Common. Instead of stopping for the accident, Harrison left the scene and continued southbound, entering Interstate 20 westbound. Officers are investigating a report of whether she had authorization to use the truck.

The driver of the pickup followed the garbage truck and called police on his cell phone. Police got behind the suspect vehicle on Interstate 20 near Pines Road. But instead of stopping, she continued driving, exiting Pines Road and making a u-turn to get back on Interstate 20.

She then exited onto State Highway 3132 and drove all the way to Bert Kouns. She then turned right onto Bert Kouns and entered Interstate 49 headed north. She then went to Murphy Street, around the Police Department building and then got back on Interstate 20. After arriving in Greenwood, Harrison lost control of her vehicle and got stuck in a ditch. As she tried to drive her vehicle away, officers shot out her tires and she was arrested without incident. An investigation is underway into this incident, with Shreveport and Caddo Parish detectives looking into the case. An internal review also will take place. The officers involved have not been placed on administrative leave.
