Shreveport police got a huge break in its search for a serial rapist who preys on older women, thanks to the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Wendell Liesmann, 38, of Elm Grove, was arrested by Bossier Parish, and evidence recovered from that arrest has enabled the Shreveport Sex Crimes Unit to link Liesmann to rapes and attempted rapes of elderly women in Shreveport.
Liesmann has not been officially charged with any crimes in Shreveport yet, but charges are pending. This evening, investigators in Shreveport and Caddo Parish will be picking up Leismann and bringing him to the Shreveport City Jail. Details of what charges will be filed against Leismann will be available at that time.
The suspected serial rapist has been tracked to cases as far back as 1999, when a man entered a residence in the 2900 block of Moss Point Road in Caddo Parish.
After three similar incidents on that same road, the suspect is believed to have migrated to the Highland neighborhood in Shreveport. The incidents that occurred in Shreveport range from Feb. 4, 2000 to April 11, 2001.
Assistant Chief of Investigations Charlie Owens will be available for interviews until 5:30 p.m. today at the Shreveport Police Department. Call Kacee to make arrangements.
