Anyone who has ever wanted to be a police officer but was not able to do it full time ought to consider becoming a Shreveport Police Auxiliary Officer.
The job is volunteer work, but the duties performed by auxiliary officers are crucial in assisting regular officers on everything from traffic accidents and crime scenes to patrol and special operations.
An Auxiliary Officer Training Academy is scheduled to take place June 18 to July 25. Participants will receive 40 hours of training, which will take place on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6 to 10 p.m. each night during the academy session.
Auxiliary officers can choose when they want to volunteer. To qualify, an applicant must be at least age 21, have a high school diploma or equivalent, have no DWI on their driving record in the past five years and have no felony convictions.
Registration is requested as soon as possible, so that the necessary applications can be completed. For more information or to apply, call Sgt. Wendell Delaney at 673-6950.
