Mooretown residents to be visited by police

The Shreveport Police Department’s Grass Roots Crime Fighting Campaign is moving to a different part of the city.

The door-to-door campaign should be the largest yet, with about 40 people expected to comb the neighborhood to fight crime. Included in that group will be Police Chief Jim Roberts, police commanders and officers, police pastors, auxiliary officers, police volunteers, the mayor’s office and even state lawmakers.

This is the first time the campaign has moved outside of North Shreveport’s Area 1. Mooretown is in Area 3, which covers portions of Central and West Shreveport.

The group will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 18, in the parking lot of Lone Star Baptist Church, 5603 Ellison. About 200 homes will be visited in hopes that residents will partner up with police and report crime in their communities.

The hotline number for residents to call with anonymous tips is

673-7236.
