Narcotics agent receives SAR award
A Shreveport narcotics agent has been honored with an award for outstanding service to the community and the Shreveport Police Department.
The Galvez Chapter of the Louisiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution honored Officer Russel Sarpy during a luncheon at the University Club.
Officer Sarpy has been with the department since May 10, 1993 and has worked in narcotics since 1995. He has been instrumental in getting drugs off the streets and putting drug dealers behind bars.
Officer Sarpy has received a number of commendations in his years as a drug agent. The most notable is his participation in a federal investigation called Painted Horse, an operation which he has worked on since 1995. The operation involved a huge cocaine conspiracy case involving money laundering that stretched from Shreveport to Los Angeles, California. The lengthy investigation resulted in the arrest of cocaine kingpin Calvin Earl Odom.
Sarpy also has worked cooperatively with numerous other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, DEA and U.S. Marshal’s Office. He has proven to be a valuable member of the Shreveport Police Department.
