A 20-year-old Shreveport man was arrested after he allegedly fired shots into a crowd of high school students waiting for the school bus at Kennedy and Illinois streets.
Ocie Jason Calhoun of the 4300 block of Illinois, is charged with attempted second-degree murder. He also faces numerous charges of illegal use of a weapon after he fired shots from a car he was driving. Another black male was in the car and is being sought for questioning.
The intended target in the shooting was an 18-year-old Shreveport man who was not a student waiting for the bus. Witnesses reported that the man was shot in the leg and ran away from the scene. However, the man was found at his mother’s house this afternoon and had not sustained an injury. A Fair Park High School student, however, did suffer a minor injury during the shooting.
Calhoun was arrested during a standoff that began shortly after the 8 a.m. shooting. Police discovered the car used in the shooting at a location just a short distance away. Police officers received authorization from the home owner to enter the house and recovered a gun. But after realizing the suspects may have been inside, they left the house and secured a perimeter.
About 11 a.m., Calhoun ran from the house, crossing Illinois Street and running through an apartment complex. A Shreveport police K-9 caught up with him under a building next to the Airport Motel in the 4300 block of Hollywood. Calhoun was taken to LSU Hospital with dog bites.
Upon Calhoun’s arrest, officers believed the second suspect may have been in the house, so the Special Response Team was called to make entry into the home. About 2 p.m., the SRT found the house clear of any suspects.
