Police Memorial Ceremony set for Thursday

Family members, friends and former colleagues of local law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty will pause to remember those brave heroes in a ceremony on Thursday.

The annual Police Memorial Ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Shreveport Police and Fire Memorial site, located next to the Barnwell Center on Clyde Fant Parkway.

The ceremony is part of National Police Week, which is being observed nationwide. In 2001, more than 220 killed in the line duty, including 70 who died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11.

Agencies participating in the ceremony include the Shreveport Police Department, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Bossier City Police Department, Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Louisiana State Police, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Shreveport Marshal’s Office and the Bossier City Marshall’s Office.
