Detective receives Optimist Club award

Shreveport Detective Suzanne Gallier was the recipient of an outstanding officer award given by the Downtown Optimist Breakfast Club this morning.

Gallier has been on the department for 11 years and currently works in the Youth Services and Missing Persons Unit. In the past year, she has done an outstanding job on a number of cases. These include the investigation of a child reportedly found wandering on a busy Shreveport street. The detective located the child’s mother and learned the woman who reported finding the child actually lied and was subsequently arrested.

Another outstanding case was the Cody Black murder investigation, which started out as a simple missing person’s report. After launching her investigation, she recovered information that led to the victim’s vehicle, the murder weapon, two suspects and ultimately, the victim’s body.

Besides solid detective work, Detective Gallier gives a lot to the community. She collects food and supplies for residents in need and volunteers hours of time during the annual Operation Santa Claus Christmas toy drive.

She takes time to work with parents who are having behavioral problems with their children and treats each case with care.

The award was presented to Gallier during a breakfast this morning at the University Club.
