Reading Bicycle Club to keep kids busy

If kids like to read or ride bicycles, the Reading Bicycle Club is for them.

The Club meets for the first time today from 8 a.m. to noon at the Queensborough/Ingleside Weed and Seed office, located at 2701 Portland near Willis-Knighton Medical Center.

The Club is put on by the Shreveport Police Department’s Queensborough/Ingleside Weed and Seed and its Neighborhood Assistance Team, with help from the Shreveport Fire Department, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Think First and Extra Mile.

A wide variety of educational activities are offered to children ages 4 to 12, including fingerprinting, fire prevention and safety, bicycle safety, reading, arts and crafts and music appreciation.

The program is designed at promoting Weed and Seed to Queensborough/Ingleside residents, while getting children to read. Prizes are given to students who read the most, including a pizza party, ice cream party and trip to the skating rink.

Approximately 50 to 75 children are expected to participate in the club, which meets each Monday morning through July 8.

The program is free and open to anyone. For more information, call the Weed and Seed office at 673-7355.
