Officers get less-lethal training
About 50 Shreveport police corporals and sergeants are being trained to use less lethal force that comes in the form of a bean bag rifle.
The gun, which is loaded with "Accu Sox" bean bag rounds instead of live ammunition, is an optional weapon the officers can have while on patrol.
Training in the use of this less lethal method is taking place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at the Shreveport Regional Police Academy.
Officers will be performing scenarios with the guns at that time, and the media is welcome to cover the training.
Police Chief Jim Roberts and academy staff will be on hand to demonstrate the new weapons and explain how they can be another tool officers use to protect themselves against violent offenders.
