Police arrest man wanted for attempted robbery/shooting
A man wanted for the May 28 attempted robbery and shooting of a 17-year-old man was captured today but not without a lot of work from officers.
Nakia S. Bates, 28, of the 1400 block of Doris Street was captured after officers pursued a vehicle that had been reported stolen. The suspect in the stolen car led police on a vehicle pursuit until he blew out three of the tires on the stolen vehicle.
The suspect then ran into a house in the 5900 block of Bernstein, which he entered by kicking in a door. The suspect then gave up and was taken into custody.
Bates is charged with attempted robbery and illegal use of a weapon in connection with the May 28 incident and also illegal possession of stolen things and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling for today’s incident.
Bates is also now charged with simple burglary in connection with the May 31 burglary of the Highland Club, 1711 Tulane. Several items from the burglary have been recovered from Bates’ residence.
Charges could be added or upgraded as the investigation continues.
