Service group cleans up Highland, spruces up city

Shreveport Police Area 2's Highland neighborhood got a little sprucing up today, thanks to a program called the Gift of Helping Hands -- Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

The effort, which was put on by SPD’s Area 2 Weed and Seed, the Extra Mile, the East Texas Youth Service Church of the Nazarene and the Highland Restoration Association, focused on cleaning up the Highland area.

The cleanup effort will extend to other parts of the city as it continues through Friday.

The Gift of Helping Hands is basically a "community services ministry," which aims to help Shreveport residents.

The roughly 30 volunteers are working this week to improve the physical conditions of neighborhoods, as well as volunteer at local non-profit agencies.
