Kid’s fishing tournament set for Saturday

Is there anything more exciting than watching a child catch their first fish?

On Saturday, dozens of children will get a chance to do just that during the Shreveport Police Department’s fishing tournament for kids.

The event, which is for boys and girls ages 6 to 16, teaches children boat safety, as well as how to cast, catch fish and identify fish.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries provides the fishing poles and bait for the event and will also have live fish on display for children to see.

Prizes will be awarded to children catching the biggest fish in their age division.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to noon at the Municipal Pier, located on Municipal Pier Road near Cross Lake Patrol and the Shreveport Yacht Club.

It is free and open to anyone. To pre-register, call 673-6950 or register the morning of the tournament.
