A Shreveport police officer was rear-ended by a suspected drunk driver early this morning while working an unrelated accident at Bert Kouns and Interstate 20.
Officer Gregory Washington, 36, of Shreveport was taken to Willis-Knighton South where he was treated and released.
Meanwhile, the man responsible for hitting him, 22-year-old Bryan Moran, is in fair condition at LSU Hospital. Moran is charged with first offense DWI.
The incident occurred about 1:37 a.m. when Officer Washington’s patrol vehicle was parked along Interstate 20 westbound to direct traffic away from another accident.
A second vehicle, a 1993 Chevy pickup, was parked behind the patrol car. The truck’s driver, 38-year-old William Gregory Caldwell of Shreveport was standing in a ditch when a 1984 Oldsmobile driven by Moran rear-ended the truck. The truck then ran into the patrol unit, injuring Washington.
While Caldwell was not injured, he was cited for driving under suspension.
