The owner of J.J.’s Boom Boom Room and three other people who worked at the illegal bar and strip club have been arrested on charges of obscenity and money laundering.
The arrests are a result of an investigation initiated following a raid of the club back in March. At that time, five people (including the owner) were arrested on drug charges.
Club owner 52-year-old Johnny Ray Johnson, known as J.J., turned himself into police this morning after an arrest warrant was issued charging him with money laundering.
The money laundering charge stems from Johnson receiving illegal proceeds from the club. He also faces criminal charges of possession of marijuana and having a weapon in the presence of drugs. Those charges were filed in March after the drugs and gun were found at Johnson’s home in the 1400 block of Harvard Street.
Three other people who worked in the club have been arrested on obscenity charges. They are Shantay Johnson, 27, of the 1600 block of Woodrow Street; John Clayborne, 36, of the 5500 block of Kennedy Street; and Marcus Palmer, 35, of the 5600 block of Ellison. None of them were dancers.
The raid of the club took place after the Shreveport Police Department received complaints about lewd dancing and sex acts being performed there. Surveillance of the building conducted for several weeks revealed that girls danced totally nude and sex acts were performed in what patrons referred to as the "Boom Boom Room."
Police seized nearly $4,000 from Johnson’s house and bar during the raid. The money included a $10 cover charge that was collected at the door and tips that had been collected from dancers.
