At 10:36 p. m. last night, September 3rd, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to the 1700 block of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. relative to a shooting.
Upon arrival there, officers found Barry Sweat, who appeared to be suffering from numerous gunshot wounds. A few minutes later, officers located another victim, Willie Thomas, a short distance away. Thomas had a gunshot wound to his chest and both victims were subsequently transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department. Thomas was later pronounced dead at LSUHSC, while Sweat was listed in critical condition.
Shreveport Police Detective Shawn Hinderberger advised that the shooting apparently took place in the parking lot of the Riteway Liquor Store, located at 1750 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. According to information gathered by Detectives, it seems that there was some type of confrontation between the victims and an unknown assailant or assailants.
