Shreveport Police Detective Suzanne Gallier has been chosen as Louisiana’s Top Cop and will be recognized as such at a national banquet being held in New York on Sept. 11.
Gallier has been with the Shreveport Police Department for 11 years. She has worked as a detective in the Youth Services and Missing Persons Unit for the past three years.
She most recently received an outstanding officer award from the Downtown Optimist Breakfast Club Award in May for her work on a number of major cases, including the missing persons case of Cody Black, who was found murdered.
The Top Cop Awards are given out by the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO), which represents more than 220,000 sworn law enforcement officers through 4,000 police unions and associations nationwide.
Like other Top Cops selected throughout the nation, Gallier was nominated by her supervisor and selected from hundreds of entries. Sgt. J. B. Walker nominated Detective Gallier for her compassionate and successful work with children and their families. As part of The Shreveport Police Department’s Youth Services and Missing Persons unit, Detective Gallier’s job includes both the location and prevention of missing and runaway children. Gallier has done everything from identifying and arresting kidnappers to solving a missing person turned homicide case. Her job does not end at 5:00 p. m., however. Gallier often volunteers for needy children, providing them with toys for Christmas.
Detective Gallier is the first Shreveport Police officer to receive this prestigious award.
