Area Two Weed and Seed will be holding a tire cleanup Wednesday, September 11th through Friday, September 13th.
Citizens who have unwanted tires may bring them to The Highland Center, located at 520 Olive on Wednesday, September 11th. On Thursday, September 12th, Weed and Seed personnel will move to A. B. Palmer Park, located in the 500 block of E. 79th St., and then on to Hattie Perry Park, in the 4300 block of Ledbetter , on Friday, September 13th.
The cleanup is part of Weed and Seed’s ongoing effort to clean up these areas, but getting rid of the old tires also will help in controlling mosquitoes, insects that are known to carry the West Nile Virus.
In addition to disposing of old and unwanted tires, the city’s Code Enforcement officials will be on hand throughout the clean up to check for any code violations in the neighborhoods. Residents found in violation of city codes are subject to receiving citations.
Weed and Seed officials urge all citizens to "pitch in" and "fight dirty" by ridding their neighborhoods of old tires, which are not only eyesores, but health hazards. If residents have any questions, they can call the Area Two Weed and Seed Office at 673-7390.
