Weed and Seed to donate toys to local youth
Shreveport Police Department’s Weed and Seed programs are donating toys made by inmates at Wade Correctional Center to local school children this week.
Participants in YEP+, an after school youth enrichment program, will receive the toys at special events being held throughout the week.
At 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, Queensborough/Ingleside Weed and Seed will deliver toys to YEP students at Queensborough Elementary. YEP students at Lakeshore Elementary will receive their toys at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Toys are being given to students at Barret, Creswell and Stoner Hill elementary schools by Area 2 Weed and Seed.
The toys are made by "inmate elves" at Wade Correctional Center. The toys resemble traditional wooden toys of yesteryear. The children love them.
Anyone wanting to cover the toy giveaway is welcome to do so. It’s very heartwarming to see these eager young achievers get something for working so hard throughout the year.
