FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOB meeting set for Thursday

The Shreveport Police Department will host a meeting for all owners of Sexually Oriented Businesses at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Police Assembly Room, located on the second floor of the Shreveport Police Department.

The informational meeting will be for businesses who fall under the city’s new Sexually Oriented Business Ordinance, which goes into effect March 1. Attendance is strongly encouraged, since owners and employees of SOB businesses have until the end of March to get new licenses and SOB cards.

Copies of the new ordinance and SOB license applications will be handed out at the meeting, and business owners will get information they need to know about applying for a license, as well as information concerning newly required Sexually Oriented Business cards.

Businesses that are now considered a Sexually Oriented Business include adult cabarets, adult arcades, adult motels, adult bookstores, adult motion picture theaters, adult novelty stores, escort agencies, adult video stores, exotic dance services, semi-nude modeling studios and massage centers.

A business who has sexually-oriented material that comprises less than 20 percent of its retail floor space is not considered an SOB, such as a convenience store that sells adult magazines. The SOB ordinance also does not include massage centers that have licenses issued by the state.

Any SOB business owner or employee who fails to obtain a required SOB license or card can get a maximum $500 fine and/or 60 days in jail for each day they operate without one.

For more information about the SOB ordinance, contact Cpl. Russell Collins at 673-7040.
