Bank robber caught with cash

A man who robbed a Hibernia Bank location was caught by police after an observant citizen followed the suspect’s vehicle and used her cell phone to tell officers his location of travel.

The incident occurred about noon at the Hibernia Bank on Line Avenue near Southfield. A white male entered the bank, told the teller he had a gun and demanded money. The man got the money and left the bank in a white Ford pickup truck.

Officers managed to stop the suspect, 42-year-old James David Wilhelm of LaGrange, Texas, in the 200 block of Leland. Two females were in the truck, but they are not believed to have known about the robbery.

Wilhelm is charged with first-degree robbery. The stolen money was recovered.

The female citizen, who does not want to be identified, is to be commended for her heroic actions and quick thinking.
